How to Check and Maintain Your Vehicle’s Fluid Levels

October 3, 2022 By Rokkit

How To Check Your Vehicle’s Fluid Levels: A Quick Guide

engine-coolant

Keeping your car healthy doesn’t require a mechanic every time! Did you know that checking your vehicle’s fluid levels regularly can help prevent breakdowns and costly repairs?

CMH Suzuki Hillcrest has put together a handy guide for five essential fluid checks you can easily do yourself between scheduled dealership services. This will help you ensure your car is running smoothly and safely.

Checking your engine oil level

The vehicle engine must be cold and not running. Look for a yellow, red, or brightly coloured loop/hood that looks like a handle. Have a cloth/rag handy and pull the oil dipstick out of the tube. Wipe the dipstick clean with a cloth/rag and insert it fully back into its tube. Remove the dipstick and check that the oil level is between the markings indicated on the dipstick.

car-steering-fluid

Engine/Radiator coolant

The vehicle engine needs to be cold and not running (do not open the coolant or radiator cover when the engine temperature is hot/high), locate the reservoir for the coolant recovery system. It is usually a translucent plastic container mounted near the radiator. The reservoir will have upper(hot) and lower(cold) level markings moulded into it. If the fluid is below the lower mark, add coolant up to that point, but not any higher.

window-washer-water

Window washer fluid

This usually has a sign that looks like a water fountain. If the level is low just fill the bottle with water until the fluid nears the top. We advise using bug-remover washer fluid in summer.

Power-steering fluid

The remotely mounted translucent plastic power-steering bottle will have minimum/maximum indicators moulded into it. Make sure that the power-steering fluid is always between those two levels, and not too full or too low.

brake-fluid

Brake fluid

The brake fluid reservoir is usually on top of the master cylinder at the rear of the engine compartment on the driver side. Locate the translucent plastic reservoir with upper and lower-level markings moulded into it. If the level is near or below the lower mark, have an auto repair shop inspect the brake system for leaks or wear as soon as possible.

Just like we need water and oil to function, your vehicle relies on various vehicle fluid levels to operate smoothly and avoid breakdowns. But how can you tell if your vehicle fluid levels are at the right level? Don’t worry, CMH Suzuki Hillcrest is here to help! Regular maintenance checks, which include checking your vehicle’s fluid levels, are crucial in ensuring your car’s performance and longevity. Car Warranties, Service & Maintenance Plans: What You Need to Know

Know Your Car Care Plans: Warranty, Service and Maintenance

cmh-suzuki-hillcrest-warranty-and-service-booklet

Congratulations on your new Suzuki from CMH Suzuki Hillcrest. This is an exciting time, and your new car comes with some great benefits to help you during the ownership experience.

One important thing to understand is the difference between a warranty, maintenance and a service plan. These plans can help you save money, but they cover different things

What is the Difference Between a Warranty, Maintenance and a Service Plan?

Warranty

This is like a promise from Suzuki that covers repairs to your car for a certain amount of time (usually 5 years) or a certain number of kilometres driven (usually 200,000km). It depends on which comes first and can vary depending on the Suzuki model you purchased. If something breaks due to a defect covered by the warranty, Suzuki will fix it for free.

suzuki-owners-manual-table-contents

Service Plan

This plan helps pay for the scheduled maintenance your Suzuki needs, like oil changes and tyre rotations. This can help you budget for car care and keep your Suzuki running smoothly. Some Suzuki models come with a standard service plan included in the purchase price, while others may require an additional purchase. These plans typically cover maintenance for 2 or 4 years, depending on the plan, with coverage of 30,000km or 60,000km.

Maintenance Plan

Although the Suzuki brand does not come standard with a maintenance plan it’s available as an optional extra that can be included on your finance application. A maintenance plan is basically an upgrade on a service plan which includes wear-and-tear on the vehicle such as the gearbox, clutch, suspension, brake pad, discs, wiper blades, shock absorbers, globes and fuses, wheel bearings, replacement gas for air-conditioning system etc. The maintenance plan simply covers the cost of your regular service (including labour) as well as the cost of repairs to parts caused by wear and tear.

The Importance of Understanding the Difference Between these Car Plans

Understanding the difference between a warranty, service, and a maintenance plan will ensure you get the most out of your vehicle now that you’re the proud owner. While these plans can save you money in the long run, they serve different purposes. For example, your warranty protects you from unexpected repairs due to manufacturer defects, while a maintenance plan helps you budget for routine servicing that keeps your Suzuki running smoothly. Consult your owner’s manual for the specifics of your coverage, or don’t hesitate to contact CMH Suzuki Hillcrest for any questions. We are happy to help you navigate the exciting world of Suzuki ownership.

Come into CMH Suzuki Hillcrest and let us assist you in finding the best plan for your vehicle. Contact us on 031 763 3121 or visit visit our website for more details on our brand, accessories, and monthly specials.

Save Money: Secret Fuel-Efficiency Hacks for Automatics

July 20, 2022 By Rokkit

Automatic Driver’s Fuel-Efficiency Handbook

fuel-gauge

Do you drive an automatic Suzuki and wish you could get better kilometres on your fuel? You’re not alone! Many automatic car owners feel like they’re at the mercy of their vehicle’s fuel efficiency. But the good news is a few simple and efficient driving techniques can stretch your tank further.

CMH Suzuki Hillcrest provides tips for saving fuel on automatic transmissions.

Keep reading the blog as we uncover(in detail) the 4 essential fuel-saving tips for drivers of automatic cars.

Tyre Pressure

Underinflated tyres cause your car to drag, increase stopping distances, and are generally unsafe. In each tyre, a portion as large as the palm of your hand touches the road surface. This affects the way you drive and your fuel economy.

fuel-saving-tips-for-automatic-transmision-cars

Aggressive driving

You can save petrol by accelerating gently and pulling away slowly rather than driving aggressively (racing and crazy acceleration).

Keep Momentum

Drive slowly and consistently, and don’t brake unless you need to. When driving on a flat surface such as a highway, you can save fuel by using your cruise control. A body in motion stays in motion, and therefore uses less energy and fuel.

automatic-transmision-gear-lever

Maintenance

Your vehicle will perform best when it is in good mechanical condition. Regular maintenance will extend the life of your vehicle and save you money on fuel and repair expenses.

Wrappin Up

In conclusion, by incorporating these fuel-saving techniques into your driving routine, you can maximise the efficiency of your automatic Suzuki and squeeze more kilometres out of every tank. Remember, a smooth and steady driving style and proper car maintenance will save you money at the pump and significantly contribute to a safer and more enjoyable driving experience. So put these tips into practice and watch those gas mileage numbers climb.

Reduce Fuel Expenditure with These Easy Tips and Suzuki’s Expertise

January 24, 2022 By Rokkit

Comprehensive Guide on Reducing Fuel Expenditure

fuel-guage

At CMH Suzuki Hillcrest, we understand the financial strain rising fuel prices can cause. That’s why we’ve compiled these simple yet effective tips to maximise your Suzuki’s fuel efficiency and help you save money at the pump:

Maximise Tyre Pressure for Better Mileage

Regularly checking your tyre pressure, on average, every two weeks, can significantly reduce rolling resistance, thus translating to better fuel economy for your Suzuki. Properly inflated tyres also wear more evenly and last longer, saving you money in the long run.

Cruise Control for Consistent Speed and Efficiency

Many Suzuki models come equipped with cruise control. This feature helps you maintain a constant speed, reducing the need for frequent acceleration – a huge fuel guzzler. Cruise control improves fuel efficiency and potentially reduces driver fatigue on long journeys.

Reduce Idling Time for Cleaner Air and Lower Fuel Costs

You may have heard about the “benefits” of letting your car idle for a few minutes before driving. However, this is a myth! Idling wastes fuel and contributes to air pollution. It’s better to turn off your engine and restart it when ready to drive.

Share the Ride and the Cost with a Lift Club

Daily commutes can be a significant fuel expense. Consider joining or creating a carpool to share the ride and the fuel cost with colleagues. A lift club is a great way to save money and reduce carbon footprint.

The Birth of the Suzuki Brand

November 18, 2021 By Rokkit

The Birth of the Suzuki Brand

Did you know that Suzuki was founded by Michio Suzuki who started a business by building weaving looms for Japan’s giant silk industry, in the small seacoast village of Hamamatsu, Japan in 1909? Despite the success of his looms, Suzuki believed that his company would benefit from diversification, and decided that building a small car would be the most practical new venture. The new project began in 1937, and within two years Suzuki had completed several compact prototype cars.

After World War II the cotton market collapsed in 1951. After the war, the Japanese had a great need for affordable, reliable personal transportation.
In 1970 an automobile plant was built in Kosai, Shizuoka.
The Suzuki company was founded by Michio Suzuki, and its current Chairman is Osamu Suzuki, the fourth adopted son-in-law in a row to run the company. Osamu Suzuki, the 91-year-old Chairman of Suzuki Motor Corporation, is due to retire, handing over to his Toshihiro.

Why choose Suzuki?

Reliable and Sustainable

One of the industry’s most reliable car manufacturers and world-renowned for durability. CMH Suzuki Hillcrest is proud to be associated with a brand that is the first to have an end-of-life disposal network, as well as developing sustainable technology and advancing environmental management.

(DWD) Driving while Distracted

October 25, 2021 By Rokkit

People are distracted while driving more often, and the number of cell phone addicts has doubled. Consequently, DWD has surpassed drunk driving and speeding to become the top roadway threat.

Driving while distracted on phone

Would you get behind the wheel when your Blood Alcohol Concentration is over the legal limit? If you answered no, would you still answer no when asked if you would use your cell phone behind the wheel?

A study revealed that cell phone addicts are spending three times more of their drive time on their cell phones and spend 28% of drive time ignoring the roads. To place this in context a cell phone addict is someone who spends more than 10% of their time on the phone while driving.

Texting

Some information revealed by the study:

  • While people know that DWD is a major problem, it does not concern them enough to change their behaviour.
  • Cell phone addicts are on the road 1.5 times more than other drivers.
  • 93% of cell phone addicts classify themselves as ‘pretty safe’ or ‘extremely safe’ drivers.
  • While 90% of drivers claim to be safe drivers, 47% of these drivers admit to using their phones and driving 10% more often.

Driving while distracted applying makeup

Driving while distracted is becoming a bigger problem but is receiving less cognisance of how dangerous and reckless it is. As if being told that distracted driving is dangerous is not enough to motivate you to keep your phone out of your hand while driving. If you are using your cell phone in the car, whatever the reason, give yourself the reminder you need to stop this behaviour before it’s too late.

Vehicle Warranty, Maintenance and Service Plans

July 20, 2021 By Rokkit

The Importance of Understanding the Different Services

It is important To Understand the Different Services – So you have bought that car that you have had your eye on for a while. You are happy with the monthly instalments and your insurance has been approved. But are you aware of the manufacturer Warranty, Maintenance Plan and Service Plan?
Most cars are sold with a standard maintenance or service plan. The price of these plans is usually included in the purchase price of the vehicle. You will benefit from the above plans when your vehicle is being serviced and maintained.

Services Department: Warranty Maintenance and Service

What is the difference between a maintenance plan, a service plan, and a warranty plan?

Maintenance Plan

Maintenance Plan

A maintenance plan is an upgrade on a service plan. It comes with more benefits than a service plan which include wear-and-tear on the vehicle such as the gearbox, clutch, suspension, brake pads, discs, wiper blades, shock absorbers, globes and fuses, wheel bearings, replacement gas for the air-conditioning system etc. The maintenance plan simply covers the cost of your regular service (including labour) as well as the cost of repairs to parts caused by wear and tear.

Service Plan

Service Plan

A service plan covers all the costs involved in having your car serviced as per the stipulations of the manufacturer. This will generally include the labour and replacement cost of air, pollen, oil filters, cam belt, brake fluid, oil, and gearbox oil as well as spark plugs. These services will have to be carried out by an authorised service centre or dealer network to guarantee that the terms of the service plan are met.

Warranty

Warranty

New vehicles carry some sort of warranty but depending on the brand they can differ. However, warranties are all restricted in terms of time and mileage. Your car’s warranty is mainly a promise by the manufacturer that the faults in manufacturing or factory defects will be repaired, or replaced, within a specific period. Items that are covered by the warranty include engine, gearbox, electric components, fuel systems, audio systems and sensors. It is important to note that a warranty does not cover all items. The items not covered are tyres and brake pads, and any damage resulting from negligence will not be covered. Damages caused by reckless driving or indecent use could void a warranty. Make sure you familiarise yourself with exactly what is covered under the warranty and for how long.

Come into CMH Suzuki Hillcrest and let us assist you in finding the best plan for your vehicle.

Suzuki Ignis Review with CMH Suzuki Hillcrest

June 19, 2019 By Rokkit

The Suzuki Ignis Review Hillcrest

The Suzuki Ignis Review Hillcrest: It’s the perfect city car is determined by a number of characteristics that are far reaching and often include terms such as compactness, turning circle, ease of parking and fuel consumption. While there are many modern day hatchbacks that fit these criteria, there are very little that out-perform the competition all-together. A hatchback that encapsulates this is the Suzuki Ignis.

Performance and reliability is of paramount importance for Suzuki who have backed up their product by providing a 2 Year/30 000km Service Plan and 5 Year/200 000km Warranty that gives you incredible peace-of-mind. This confidence is then strengthened by the fantastic styling of the Ignis; a blend on hatchback and crossover-SUV. Attractive black alloys, LED daytime running lights and roof rails shows off the athletic stance of the 1.2 GLX Ignis.

The interior is even better with quality cloth seats that will envelop you, giving the confidence to turn tight corners while having the comfort to make long distance trips comfortable and that much more enjoyable. The GLX is also fitted with a range of interior accessories such as air conditioning, radio with CD, aux, USB, Bluetooth and multi-function steering wheel – all with quality finishes that enhance the overall build quality.

Purchasing a vehicle in the present day can be a difficult challenge; however the Suzuki Ignis with its incredible styling, features, performance and reliability will give you that happiness and excitement you richly deserve in your new hatchback. Suzuki Swift Review Hillcrest

Suzuki Swift Review Hillcrest: The hatchback segment in the South African market is a fiercely contested one, with a variety of manufacturers providing a range of vehicles that may sometimes overwhelm prospective clients. With new models consistently being released, there is no substitution for a vehicle that has been popular across the country for years. This is true of the new, refreshed Suzuki Swift.
Suzuki as a brand is renowned for its reliability but the Swift is an iconic hatchback that continues to exceed expectations thanks to sensational performance, comfort and styling. The new Swift has taken these key areas into consideration to provide a product that will make you smile every time you get behind the wheel.

The new Suzuki Swift retains the styling with some alterations to make it that much more attractive with subtle body changes and new 14” wheels. Moving inside, the exquisite cloth interior is unrivalled in comfort and space – providing the chance to fit friends and family in to make a trip into the Midlands or down the coast. The interior is bolstered by a radio with CD/Aux/USB and Bluetooth functionality to provide endless entertainment while air conditioning will always keep you cool during the hot summer months.

While styling and comfort play pivotal factors in the purchase of a vehicle; another is safety. The new Suzuki Swift is provided with dual airbags, ABS with EBD as well as brake assist. Such safety features when combined with Suzuki’s reliability, 5 Year/200 000km Warranty and 2 Year/30 000km Service Plan create an offering that gives sensational peace-of-mind.

The new Suzuki Swift is the perfect hatchback whether you are a student that has just started at university or after many years of service deciding to retire and live in peace and tranquillity.
