Coming Soon: The All-New Suzuki Ignis

December 22, 2016 By Rokkit

New Suzuki Ignis

With Tonka Toy styling, impressive spec levels, the Ignis is sure to win over those seeking something uniquely stylish, yet capable and easy on the pocket.

Suzuki Motor Corporation unveiled the new Suzuki Ignis for Europe at the 2016 Paris Motor Show as its new global compact crossover and it clearly demonstrates convenience and comfort in a stylish new exterior. It exudes Suzuki DNA from every pore, while at the same time introducing an entirely new design with unique character.

In addition to its stylish exterior design in a compact size of just 3,700mm long, the Suzuki Ignis features excellent visibility, a spacious cabin and ample luggage space. The development goal was to create compact crossover styling that is undoubtedly Suzuki.

Following on from the Baleno, the Ignis is the second model to feature under the ‘SUZUKI NEXT 100’ plan announced at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2015. This involved Suzuki developing a new platform strategy for its future models which targets the reduction of weight and as a result, the Ignis has a kerb weight of just 810kg.

Exterior design

Design wise, there’s no mistaking the Ignis as anything other than a Suzuki. With short overhangs, unique rear quarter and distinctive front that integrates LED headlamps, the Ignis cuts a unique profile.  Those with a keen eye for detail will note the Swift-like distinctive blacked out ‘A’ and ‘B’ pillar design.

New Suzuki Ignis

Complementing the simple yet unique exterior design is an equally funky interior, which is not short on standard specification. A central dashboard arrangement houses an upper-level touchscreen infotainment system, while below that retro looking rocker-type switchgear are used for air-conditioning and auxiliary functions. The two-tone dashboard options as well as the splashes of colour, which depending on the choice of exterior colour, lifts the interior ambience and lends it a futuristic look. Interior accent colours will be available in orange or metallic titanium.

Interior Flexibility

Suzuki’s decision to adopt a new platform strategy has paid off handsomely with regards to interior space. Courtesy of shrunken engine compartment, designers have maximised interior space available for passengers and luggage, and while the Ignis only measures a diminutive 3.7 in length, occupants might well presume they’re in something a lot larger with the ample head and legroom on offer for available for all five seats.

New Suzuki Ignis

Considering its ambitions as a compact crossover, the Ignis is sure to appeal to small families who will rejoice at the 267-litres of boot space available (204-litres for ALLGRIP models featuring a rear differential). A sliding and folding rear seat is also fitted, giving the option of increased rear legroom or increased boot space, depending on the situation at hand.

Impressive Standard Spec

Standard equipment for all Ignis models in the range is comprehensive and includes six airbags, air conditioning, DAB radio with Bluetooth, 15-inch wheels, body coloured door mirrors, front electric windows and five-seat capacity.

New Suzuki Ignis

Middle specification models receive additional satellite navigation, rearview camera, 16-inch alloy wheels, roof rails, wheel arch extensions and four seat capacity with individually sliding rear seats. While the top of the range specification further adds auto air conditioning, Dual Camera Brake Support, keyless entry and start, rear electric windows, and LED Headlights with daytime running lights and front fog lamps.

New Suzuki Ignis

Colour options for the Ignis will include one solid colour, five optional metallic colours and five two-tone colours which feature a Super Pearl Black Metallic roof.

1.2-litre DualJet Engine

Powering the Ignis is a 1.2-litre DualJet (K12C) four-cylinder petrol engine which generates 67 kW and 120 Nm of torque at 4 400 rpm. In two-wheel drive models, power is sent to the front wheels via a five-speed manual gearbox.

4WD (ALLGRIP Auto)

Unconfirmed for South Africa, yet available in other markets is an Ignis ALLGRIP four-wheel drive model featuring a simple and fully automatic permanent four-wheel drive layout which transfers additional torque to the rear wheels when required via a viscous coupling.

Additional complementary systems to the ALLGRIP system includes Hill Descent Control and Grip Control. Grip Control activates on slippery surfaces at speeds of less than 30kph. Once switched on by the driver, it focuses torque on the driven wheels that have grip and will quickly apply braking to the wheel that is spinning.

The Spacious Suzuki Baleno Enters The Market

New Suzuki Baleno

[ngg_images source=”galleries” container_ids=”2″ sortorder=”74,75,76,71,73,72″ display_type=”photocrati-nextgen_pro_thumbnail_grid” override_thumbnail_settings=”1″ thumbnail_width=”150″ thumbnail_height=”100″ thumbnail_crop=”1″ images_per_page=”20″ border_size=”0″ border_color=”#eeeeee” spacing=”2″ number_of_columns=”6″ ngg_triggers_display=”always” captions_enabled=”0″ captions_display_sharing=”1″ captions_display_title=”1″ captions_display_description=”1″ captions_animation=”slideup” order_by=”sortorder” order_direction=”ASC” returns=”included” maximum_entity_count=”500″]

The new Suzuki Baleno – ideal for individuals and families seeking the extra comfort and convenience of a larger hatchback

Over the years Suzuki has acquired a loyal following and varied customer base, due in most part to the fact that the Suzuki vehicle line-up which spans entry level compact hatchbacks such as the Celerio and Swift, to the family friendly Grand Vitara SUV. Even the left-field Suzuki Jimny has a cult-like following with its super-compact footprint and exceptional off-road ability, it will put many a  SUV/4×4 to shame when the off-road gets tough.

It’s this varied range, including sedans and crossovers, which has allowed Suzuki fans to stay within the Suzuki family when lifestyles, budgets or families have grown, instead of switching to another brand which might have better catered to their needs. However, there has been one segment which, until now, Suzuki has not competed in – the (plus sized) B-segment.

Say Hello To The Suzuki Baleno

Bigger than the Swift, the Baleno aims to please those seeking a little more space, but not yet willing to explore the possibility of a sedan such as the Suzuki Ciaz. With a familiar design that well represents the Suzuki family identity, the Baleno is a refreshing addition to the family with short overhangs, sculpted flanks and a spacious, intelligently packaged and functional interior.

New Suzuki Baleno

Produced in India, the Baleno has already carved itself a strong position in the international market, selling more than 100 000 units in just 12 months in India alone, with 60 000 back orders and a 33-week waiting period. Impressive!

“The new Baleno adds a larger and more spacious hatchback to our new car portfolio,” says Charl Grobler, manager of sales and product planning at Suzuki Auto South Africa. “It’s ideal for individuals and families seeking the extra comfort and convenience of a larger hatchback, but don’t want to give up the agility and efficiency of the Swift.”

Engine and Transmissions

In South Africa, all three Suzuki Baleno models are powered by the same 1,4-litre engine. The tried and trusted K14B four-cylinder unit is already a popular choice in the Swift, Ertiga and Ciaz model ranges, and produces 68kW of maximum power and of 130Nm of torque. Buyers have a choice of two gearboxes: a five-speed manual, and a four-speed automatic transmission, with drive being sent to the front wheels in both cases.

Average fuel consumption for the combined cycle comes to 5,1 litres/100 km for the manual model, and 5,4 litres/100 km for the automatic version. The rated CO2 exhaust gas emissions are 120 g/km for manual models, and 128 g/km for the automatic version.

It’s worth noting that despite being larger than the Swift, the Baleno is 11 percent lighter, with a kerb mass of just 915kg, allowing for power-to-weight ratio of 76,5 kW/tonne. Using special, high-tensile steel, the basic body shell weighs just 196 kg – the lightest in the B-segment hatchback class.

Safe And Secure

All Baleno models come with ABS anti-lock brakes, augmented electronic brake force distribution (EBD) and emergency braking assistance (EBA). Dual front airbags are standard too, while GLX models also get side and curtain airbags.

Inertia-reel seatbelts are fitted to all five seating positions. The front seat belts feature pre-tensioners and load limiters. Adjustable head restraints are provided for all five occupants.

Other safety and security-related features include Isofix child seat tethers integrated into the rear bench seat, childproof rear door locks, side impact protection beams and an alarm/immobiliser system. Remote central locking is also standard.

Range And Specification

The Baleno is available in two trim version, the entry-level GL spec and the more upmarket GLX.

In GL trim, the Baleno is by no means stripped out or spartan. Standard exterior features include colour-coded exterior mirrors and door handles, blacked out A and B-pillars, multi-reflector halogen headlights, and tinted windows. 15-inch steel wheels with covers are standard fare.

New Suzuki Baleno

Inside, electric windows front and rear, manual air-conditioning, remote central locking, and electrically adjustable side mirrors, MP3 compatible CD Radio with six speakers, Bluetooth connectivity, USB and 3.5mm auxiliary connections, and 12V power socket are all included as standard equipment.

A tilt-adjustable multifunction steering wheel, which features integrated controls for the audio system, and the Bluetooth-based hands-free telephony system is also included.

New Suzuki Baleno

In GLX trim, everything mentioned above is present, with a few notable upgrades.

Included on GLX models are HID projector headlights and LED daytime running lights, fog lamps and integrated turn signals in the side mirrors. Lashings of chrome are found on the door handles, body sides and boot, with the boot lid featuring a top-mounted spoiler. Unlike the steel wheels on the GL trim, GLX derivatives receive stylish 16-inch alloy wheels.

Inside the GLX, the instrument cluster remains the same, but the steering binnacle digital display is upgraded to a 4,2-inch TFT colour display and gains the ability to display average speed and ambient temperature. Steering wheel receives leather trim and is adjustable for reach and rake.

New Suzuki Baleno

The multifunction steering wheel gets additional controls for the cruise control, which is included in the GLX specification. Also upgraded is the air-conditioning, which is now fully automatic. And rear park distance control is fitted as standard, too, as well as keyless engine start and stop.

GLX models gain side and curtain airbags, bringing the total tally to six, while the ABS braking system features rear disc brakes, instead of the GL model’s rear drums.

Both models receive a standard three-year/100 000 km warranty, as well as a four-year/60 000 km service plan.

Challenge accepted! Super Carry beats the odds

September 14, 2016 By Rokkit

2016 SUZUKI SUPER CARRY

The challenge – drive 750 km with a load of 750 kg on R750 worth of fuel with a Suzuki Super Carry.
This challenge, dubbed the #SuperCarry750 challenge, was conceived when the team at Suzuki Auto South Africa decided to test their newest workhorse and help someone in need at the same time.
After some deliberation, the staff at Suzuki decided to help the Hospice in Port Shepstone and the call went out for anyone to contribute. Soon a large load, including a couple of dishwashers and fresh paint, stood ready to be taken to the coastal town.

“We decided that this would be a great test for our new Super Carry workhorse and challenged our team with the following: take the load, now weighing in at exactly 750 kg, to Port Shepstone using only R750 worth of fuel,” explains Charl Grobler, national marketing and product planning manager at Suzuki South Africa.

To make the challenge more fun, the team mapped a route of exactly 750 km from their head office and parts warehouse in Johannesburg to the Hospice in Port Shepstone. They then handed the keys to a Super Carry to Brendon Carpenter, the assistant manager of sales training and development and the volunteering driver, and co-driver Nicole Glover, and they were on their way.
On Wednesday, 17 August, the donation left Johannesburg and was delivered by the team that same afternoon. After the delivery Super Carry covered another 156.2 km on the fuel that the team had bought in Johannesburg for R750, before they decided to refuel.

“The Super Carry was the true hero of this challenge,” says Carpenter. “It soldiered on well beyond the 750 km target and didn’t chicken out at the very last minute like we did. The risk of running out of fuel in the dark on the N2 between Amanzimtoti and who-knows-where didn’t appeal to us. Still, even after we cut the total distance short, the Super Carry managed to achieve an average fuel consumption figure of just 6.7l/100km for the entire trip, with most of the trip completed with a full load. Legendary stuff!”
The new Suzuki Super Carry entered the market in June 2016 as the ideal workhorse for businesses and entrepreneurs looking for a cost effective delivery vehicle. The Super Carry is equipped with a 1.2 litre four-cylinder petrol engine that delivers 54 kW and 101 Nm to its rear wheels through a five-speed manual gearbox.
The Super Carry is sold with a 3-year / 100 000 km mechanical warranty and roadside assistance plan and a 6-year anti-corrosion warranty.

The next best car to a new Suzuki is a pre-owned Suzuki…here’s why!

July 25, 2016 By Rokkit

Automotive research specialists, JD Powers, recently found Suzuki to be one of the best quality mass-market brands in the UK, when measured by the number of problems that customers have experienced during the first three years of ownership.
The tests show Suzuki quality, after three years of use, was rated at 30% better than the industry average. This, when combined with high levels of sales and service satisfaction, makes Suzuki one of the most rewarding brands to own.

The JD Power Vehicle Dependability study is considered one of the most comprehensive quality studies of its kind. Apart from asking owners for a general assessment of the quality of the vehicle, it studies 177 specific areas in each vehicle.

These include engine and transmission, driving experience, paint, panel fit and finish, seats, heating and ventilation, in-car entertainment and the general quality of the interior after three years of use.
The UK JD Power report mirrors Suzuki’s internal customer satisfaction ratings in South Africa.

Since its official local launch in 2008, Suzuki has seen its customer satisfaction ratings track positive to its growth in market share, with a high point recorded in 2014, when it was officially recognised as the second-fastest growing brand in the country.

Suzuki Pre-owned

Suzuki in South Africa

Over the past two years, Suzuki has also increased its dealer footprint in South Africa by doubling its dealer network from 23 in 2014 to 47 dealers by the end of 2016, including new dealerships in Lesotho and Swaziland.
“Each one of our passenger models and SUVs has a loyal following, but in the lead is the Suzuki Swift, our most popular passenger vehicle in South Africa,” says André Venter, divisional manager for sales and marketing at Suzuki Auto South Africa. “The Swift is a best seller with combined sales of over five million units across the globe.”
The Swift has amassed over 60 awards in recent years, including quality awards across Europe and consumer choice accolades in Europe, Asia and South Africa.

In South Africa, the Swift was named in several large consumer choice and magazine awards, alongside the Celerio, Vitara, Ciaz and Ertiga.

Suzuki and Hukato shoot for the moon – 2016 Google XPRIZE

July 15, 2016 By Rokkit

X Prize
An early model of the Suzuki lunar craft

The next vehicle to drive on the moon could very well be a Suzuki, if the team from Hukato, Suzuki and ispace technologies has its way.
Hukato is competing for Google’s Lunar XPRIZE, often called Moon 2.0, and it aims to be the first privately funded lunar exploration team. It has received a significant boost this month as Suzuki announced its support of this all-Japanese team.
The Lunar XPRIZE of $20 million will be awarded to the first privately funded team of space explorers that can safely land a lunar rover on the surface of the moon and have the vehicle travel at least 500 metres, while recording high resolution images.
The deadline for this feat is 31 December 2017, although teams must have booked a space flight before the end of 2016 to remain in contention.
For the trip to the moon, Hukato has enlisted the support of ispace technologies, a high-tech start-up that develops interconnected micro-robots that will one day explore space for exploitable resources. Once on the moon, however, the task will fall on Suzuki to help design and build a craft that can manoeuvre the rocky and powdery surface in one sixth of the gravity of the earth.
According to Hukato, they enlisted the help of Suzuki because of its globally recognised expertise in building highly manoeuvrable compact vehicles, often with four-wheel drive. Suzuki, in turn, was enthused by the Hukato’s bold vision and the opportunity to contribute to the future of society, as it has done since its inception 107 years ago.
Suzuki’s has already started working with Hukato on weight saving and drivability and is drawing on its expertise that has made compact vehicles like the Swift a global best-seller, with sales of over 5 million units, and with vehicles such as the Jimny, a perennial favourite for off-road driving.
Weight saving will be crucial for the launch and transport phase and is seen as the primary concern for keeping the cost of the launch as low as possible. Here Suzuki has contributed its specialist knowledge of weight-saving design and the use of modern materials, such as carbon fibre.
To aid the rover’s drivability on the powdery surface of the moon, called regolith, Suzuki will utilise its knowledge of traction control and four-wheel-drive and its ability to build these technologies into very compact vehicles.
Hukato’s current rover design is called the Pre-Flight Model 3 and it features solar panels for energy, high-definition 360 degree cameras, a full carbon-fibre hull and custom-designed wheels designed for grip.

The All-New Suzuki Super Carry

June 2, 2016 By Rokkit

Suzuki South Africa has entered the Light Commercial Vehicle (LCV) segment for the first time with the introduction of the new Super Carry compact bakkie. The Super Carry will arrive at Suzuki dealerships across the country in June 2016. Suzuki is best known for its reliable passenger cars, with the Swift, Vitara and Jimny being particularly popular in South Africa. Suzuki South Africa is now venturing forth into the Light Commercial Vehicle (LCV) segment and will soon introduce the Super Carry compact bakkie to market in June 2016.

The Super Carry bakkie, now in its 11th generation, has been around since 1961 and has been particularly popular in Japan and other markets. The Super Carry is built in India and South Africa will be the first international market to receive the new model. The Super Carry will appeal to small business owners looking for a capable, affordable and reliable workhorse to ‘carry’ out daily business duties, with the support of Suzuki’s established dealer network.

What does the Super Carry offer?

The Super Carry comes with a payload of 750 kg and features a cab-over design with a large load bay measuring 2.18 x 1.49 metres. The Super Carry also has a ground clearance of 175 mm and a turning circle of 8.6 metres, which makes it capable of manoeuvring in tighter spaces.
The Super Carry can comfortably seat two people and the raised seating position offers increased visibility for the driver.
A 1.2-litre engine with a total of 54 kW and 101 Nm of torque will power the new Super Carry with a 5-speed manual transmission powering the rear wheels.

“We’re delighted to introduce the Suzuki Super Carry to the SA market. It arrives at a time when cost efficiency, affordability and value for money are key requirements for small businesses and entrepreneurs seeking an efficient, versatile and robust utility vehicle” says Charl Grobler, manager of product planning and sales at Suzuki Auto SA.

CMH Suzuki Umhlanga – The Phoenix Plaza Display

May 31, 2016 By Rokkit

It’s always such a pleasure interacting with different people and cultures, and that’s the experience Suzuki gives us when we do mall displays.

Last week we were at the plaza, what a colorful and vibrant place with friendly people , never missing a chance to stop put aside their busy their shopping with their families to find out more about our underdog brand.

The beauty about Suzuki is that it appeals to the Average South Africa that’s currently being beat down by the economy but still needs to move on their 9 to 5 job.

Customers took the time to query about pricing and as much as most of them were oblivious to the brand it was to their surprise how affordable and reliable our vehicles were.

Most people either mistaken us for Isuzu or just selling bikes but when I spoke about Suzuki’s vase heritage clients were shocked.

It’s always such a pleasure to be in a place we people are willing to try something new.. and what better more to offer them through these trying times our 2nd place warranty claim Suzuki vehicles that have such impeccable fuel consumption to top it all off.

The aim is not just to sell cars but to increase the Suzuki Family with tail lights leaving our showroom and happy drivers with peace of mind in this crazy world we live in.

CMH Suzuki Umhlanga – Tekkie Day Tax 2016

May 30, 2016 By Rokkit

We at CMH Suzuki Umhlanga will go the extra mile to ensure customer satisfaction and quality service, but we also care just as much about the less fortunate, disabled, education and animals, so Team Suzuki Umhlanga geared up in their tekkies to show our support on National Tekkie Day on the 27th May 2016. All proceeds were donated towards various welfare organisations to help to create a better life for others. In Tekkie Tax, a mix of the most accountable welfare organisations joined forces to do one very big campaign where you can choose whom YOU want to benefit from your donation. This is saving a lot of money and creates a platform for organisations that normally do not have the infrastructure to engage in this model of fundraising.

CMH Suzuki Umhlanga – Tekkie Day Tax 2016In Tekkie Tax, a mix of the most accountable welfare organisations joined forces to do one very big campaign where you can choose whom YOU want to benefit from your donation. This is saving a lot of money and creates a platform for organisations that normally do not have the infrastructure to engage in this model of fundraising.
Donating some of your hard-earned cash to a worthy cause can be a road full of potholes. Not all welfare organisations render an accountable service, and you need to make sure that you are supporting a trustworthy campaign!
By supporting the beneficiaries of Tekkie Tax, you can rest assured that they have been hand-picked, personally visited and all their credentials from shoe size to preferred toothbrush have been verified. So, in short – your donations will be treated with the highest respect and will be used to make life a better place: for people, children and animals! Which-ever one you choose. At CMH Suzuki Umhlanga we believe in helping and bringing hope to others. This is a small gesture from our team to say show that we care.

2016 Suzuki Baleno Gets Ready for Geneva

March 2, 2016 By Rokkit

Geneva Suzuki Auto will give visitors to the Geneva International Motor Show a glimpse of its future when it introduces the new European-bound Suzuki Baleno on 1 March.

The production version of the new Suzuki Baleno is hailed as the most advanced hatchback yet for the compact car specialist and it will introduce a new platform and creature comforts. The South African introduction is slated for the second half of this year. The Baleno will be the first new Suzuki model to feature the company’s lightweight new generation platform. The platform was created as the foundation for several new models and offers greater rigidity, which will benefit the Baleno’s ride and handling performance, and a lower kerb weight, which scores positively for fuel consumption and power-to-weight ratio.

The platform draws on Suzuki’s compact vehicle expertise and is said to offer Csegment space in a B-segment market, with an overall length of under 4 000 mm. The increased space will benefit the driver and passengers, and the boot space is best in its class. With the Baleno, Suzuki Auto continues its rapid pace of new vehicle introductions, which has seen it launch new models such as the Vitara, Celerio, Ertiga, SX4 and Ciaz in rapid succession. These new models are partly responsible for the popularity of this Japanese brand, which this year celebrated the sale of the 50 millionth Suzuki globally and the overall sale of 40 000 Suzuki vehicles in South Africa since 2008. Apart from being the first vehicle to use Suzuki’s new-generation platform, it also introduces the world to its Liquid Flow design language. The new design language gives the Baleno an air of sophistication, while being one of the most aerodynamic models ever built by the company.
