CMH Suzuki Umhlanga Cares for your safety – Tips for driving during the rainy season
On road safety tips:
Slow down – your tyres can lose contact with the road (hydroplane) at speeds as low as 56 km/h. At CMH Suzuki Umhlanga, we sell tyres!
Increase your following distance – this gives you more time to brake if you need to slow down.
Make smooth movements – avoid sharp steering, rapid acceleration, or sudden braking.
Navigating water hazards:
Avoid standing water and puddles – potholes could be lurking in the water.
What to do if you hydroplane – if you feel the car floating or losing traction, do not slam on the brakes. Ease off the accelerator pedal while holding the steering wheel firmly, and steer straight, or in the direction you are sliding until your tyres regain grip.
Making sure your vehicle is prepared for the rainy season:
Check tyre tread and pressure – Balding or improperly inflated tyres cannot effectively displace water, this significantly increases your risk of skidding.
Replace worn windshield wipers – Worn wiper blades streak and smudge your windshield. Do not forget to use your defroster system simultaneously to keep the inside of the windows from frosting up.
CMH Suzuki Umhlanga Parts Department has stock on hand for common service items like windshield wipers.
